Two wheels, one flat battery. Checked before we attend.
Petrol motorcycle and scooter starter batteries need a suitability check first: battery type, voltage, access and permission. This page explains what we look at and what to send.
Battery and voltage
Type and voltage decide suitability.
Conventional, AGM and gel
Conventional lead-acid, AGM and gel starter batteries are the usual types on petrol motorcycles and scooters. We still check the details before saying whether assistance looks suitable.
Lithium needs approval
Lithium starter batteries are not assumed to be compatible. They are only considered where both our equipment and the battery or vehicle manufacturer approve it. We never claim universal lithium support.
Voltage is confirmed, not assumed
Most modern machines are 12V, but older bikes and some scooters can be 6V or another system. If voltage cannot be confirmed, we will say so rather than proceed.
Access
Where the battery is matters.
Under the seat or panels
Many batteries sit under the seat, a side panel or fairing. Tell us if you can already see or reach it without tools. Please do not dismantle anything to find out.
Security and permission
Locked seats, immobilisers, private car parks and shared sites may need the owner or site manager to approve access. Tell us who can give it.
Safe place to work
We need the machine somewhere safe to attend. A busy road, a steep slope or an unlit corner may mean we cannot help there.
Storage, drain and symptoms
What it can look like.
These can point towards a flat or drained battery, but they can have other causes. This is not a diagnosis and we cannot promise one.
- Starter turns slowly, or you get a click and nothing else
- Dash lights dim, flicker or go out when you press start
- Machine has been stored for weeks or months
- Short trips only, or lots of stop-start riding in cold weather
- Alarm, tracker or accessories left connected
- Battery went flat again soon after a previous start
- Electric motorcycle and scooter traction batteries are excluded. We do not offer traction-battery charging or repairs, or e-scooter charging or repairs.
- A separate low-voltage auxiliary battery on an electric motorcycle or road scooter is only considered after checking voltage, manufacturer guidance and equipment suitability. This is never traction-battery work.
- Symptoms can look alike. We describe possibilities and cannot promise a diagnosis from a description.
- This page is not a DIY guide. Please do not wire up cables or try to bump-start from anything you read here.
- Please do not handle a battery that is damaged, leaking, swollen or hot. Keep clear and tell us.
- No guaranteed start, attendance or availability. Cost is confirmed before work is agreed.
Before you enquire
What to send us.
The contact page prepares a generic WhatsApp draft with no business recipient selected. Choose a verified recipient, review the draft and send it yourself. The form does not save your details or send a message automatically, but opening WhatsApp passes the entered details in the link before you send. A draft is not a booking confirmation. Read our privacy information.
- Make, model and year
- Petrol or electric
- Battery type and voltage, if known without dismantling anything
- Symptoms and when it last ran
- Postcode and access: garage, car park, locked seat, site permission
- A contact number
Motorcycle and scooter questions
Straight answers.
Can you jump-start a lithium bike battery?
Only where our equipment and the manufacturer approve it. We check before agreeing, and may decline.
My scooter is old. Is it 12V?
Not necessarily. Some older machines use other voltages. Send what you know and we will confirm before any work.
Can you help with an electric scooter or motorcycle?
We do not charge or repair traction batteries, and e-scooter charging and repairs are excluded. If a road scooter or motorcycle has a separate low-voltage auxiliary battery, send the model details so suitability can be checked. Assistance is not guaranteed.
Will a jump-start cure it?
Not always. A battery that goes flat again may be worn or being drained, and a battery test can help assess it.
The battery looks swollen. What now?
Do not touch it or try to start the machine. Keep away from heat and get in touch so we can advise.
Tell us the bike and what it is doing.
We will say what looks possible before work is agreed.
