Motorhome won’t start? Start with the right battery.

A motorhome has more than one battery system. This page explains which one a jump-start relates to, what is checked case by case and what to send with your enquiry.

Two systems, two jobs

Starter battery or leisure batteries?

Starter battery

This is the battery that cranks the engine. A flat starter battery on a compatible vehicle is the kind of problem a jump-start enquiry covers, once the details are checked.

Leisure batteries

These power lights, the fridge, pumps and other living-area equipment. They are a separate system, and we do not promise repair of leisure electrics. A flat engine start does not mean the leisure side is at fault, or the reverse.

Checked case by case

Which motorhomes and campervans may suit.

  • Compatible motorhomes and campervans with a flat 12V engine starting battery.
  • Vehicles where the starter battery can be reached safely and the vehicle can be approached.
  • Cases where the symptoms point to a flat starter battery rather than a wider electrical fault.
  • Starter battery testing or replacement enquiries, with specification and price confirmed first.

Limits worth knowing

What we will not promise.

  • No promise to repair or restore leisure battery systems, chargers, inverters or habitation electrics.
  • Not every motorhome is compatible. Larger or converted vehicles may have a different layout or voltage that must be checked.
  • A jump-start will not cure every fault. A battery that keeps going flat may need testing or replacing.
  • If access is unsafe or the setup is unclear, we may decline until it is confirmed.

Before you enquire

The details that help us assess it.

  • Make and model of the motorhome or campervan, and any conversion details
  • Battery voltage if you know it
  • Symptoms: clicking, no lights, slow crank, or nothing at all
  • Whether the leisure side is also affected
  • Where it is parked, with a postcode, and how easy it is to reach the battery
  • A contact number

Straight answers

Questions on this page.

Anything else, include it in your enquiry.

Can you jump-start my leisure batteries?

This page is about the starter battery. Leisure batteries are a different system and need checking separately, and we do not promise any repair of them.

Is every motorhome compatible?

No. Compatible vehicles are checked case by case, using the make, model, voltage and battery location you send.

My engine will not start but the lights work. What does that mean?

It can point to a weak starter battery, but other causes are possible. Describe the symptoms in your enquiry and it will be considered.

Do I need to know the battery voltage?

It helps, but if you do not know it, say so. The voltage must be confirmed before anyone agrees to attend.

Can a new starter battery be fitted?

Replacement is available by enquiry. Specification, availability, fitting and price are confirmed for your vehicle first.

Send the make, model and symptoms.

Suitability is confirmed before work is agreed.
